
A wet windshield becomes a slide for Megan Liffick, 6, and C.J. Bush, 5, at the Budget Inn Motel in Cave City, Ky. The concrete parking lot is a playground for Megan who lives in the motel with the rest of her family.

'I don't like to depend on anyone,' Lonnie Staples said. 'I always done it myself.' After three strokes and developing Diabetes, Lonnie is forced to depend on others to get things done. David Bush, a long-time family friend, gets Lonnie's car ready for the road. 'He's the best mechanic,' Lonnie said. '(David's) worth a hell of a lot.'

T.J. Kruszynski, 3, can say 'mom', 'dad', and 'duck.' T.J.'s mother, Martha Liffick, said that T.J.'s doctor suspects he could be midly autistic. Although T.J. is surrounded by family to interact with, like family friend David Bush, T.J. often chooses to play by himself.

The door of Lonnie Staples' room stays open on mild-weathered evenings when his nieces and nephew play outside. His sister, Darlene Kinner, watches old movies with her brother often while also keeping an eye and ear on her grandchildren.

Finding the last drops of A romp in the rain Megan Liffick, 6, noticed that the rain had stopped, but pointed to the line of water draining from the Budget Inn's roof onto the concrete beside her. 'It stopped, except for right there,' Liffick said. Liffick lives in the Budget Inn with her mother and sister, along with her cousin, aunt, uncle and great uncle.

Martha Liffick, expecting mother of three, said the worst thing about living in the Budget Inn Motel is that her children have no place safe to play. They spend most of their time inside their room where the cartoon channel flashes light across the three beds where they sleep and eat.

A sleep disorder keeps Ameris Liffick, 9, awake late with her uncle Aaron Allen, 22, and his girlfriend Bridgett Ludwig, 19, in their room next to hers where her three-year-old brother, six-year-old sister, mother, grandmother sleep. The couple tells Ameris to hush when she becomes loud enough to wake the other family members.

T.J.Kruszynski, 3, is comforted by his mother Martha Liffick, 24, after he falls down. Martha said that T.J. is less sociable than her other two kids and that he often occupies himself. She said she believes his independence has hurt his ability to develop his vocabulary. T.J. can say 'mom', 'dad' and 'duck.'
