After 30 years of telephone installation and repair, Steve Parrott, who is 60 years old spends his time restoring historic buildings in downtown Bardstown. On Tuesday October 21, 2003, Parrott was two stories up on the roof of the Mclean House. The Mclean House, circa 1814 was used as an early post office and as a printers and cabinet workshops.

Parrott was restoring the windows of the Mclean House, which were originally made from poplar wood and hammered with square nails. "I'm surprised that wood sticks around for 200 years" said Parrott as he pulled a square nail from a portion of poplar wood. When Parrott joined the Southern Bell telephone company in 1967, he was given top secret security clearance. "Sometimes you come in contact with sensitive communications" said Parrott. One time was when he installed phone service to a Denver hotel suite used by then vice-president George Herbert Walker Bush in 1983.
