My Old Kentucky Home was built in 1822 by Judge John Rowan, who served on the Kentucky Court of Appeals and U.S. Senate. Rowan named the house "Federal Hill." Stephen Foster was inspired to write his world-famous song "My Old Kentucky Home" after visiting the home in 1852.

After finishing their tour of the inside of My Old Kentucky Home, visitors visit the smokehouse and carriage house behind the house.
