Samuel Hutton and his wife built the log cabin in 1790 as part of the newly formed U.S. government's plan to settle land west of the Appalachians and remove the Indian population. History tells that once when Hutton was traveling, his wife saw feathers sticking out of the spring under the house, took an axe, and killed the Indian hiding below. The Spencer's only use the cabin for storage now.
